Northeastern California sports fans, here’s a look at your local sports scene:
The Reno Aces got another win over Tacoma last night, 8-7, and will
face off at home with Tacoma again this afternoon at 1pm.
125 teams consisting of 2 ladies each, three full rounds and three
short rounds, and a championship round. This, was the Reno Rodeo
Ladies Only Team Roping Invitational, in which 250 cowgirls paired up
to have a shot at winning the grand prize of $20,000, requiring teams
to successfully head and heel a steer in three rounds, a task which
only 16 out of 125 teams were able to do. When it got down to the
final round, 12 of those 16 teams recorded no times. Enter Jessica
Hemphill, heeling her team’s steer in 8.94 seconds, enabling her
partner Molly Hepper to catch the steer well under the needed roping
time of 19.44 seconds for the win. Hepper and Hemphill took first
place and $20,000 with a combined four-round time of 33.31 seconds as
well as a $2,000 bonus for the fastest time in the championship round.
For 4th of July activities, the 30th Annual 4th of July 5K Fun Run
will begin at 8:30am on July 4th. The race begins at 500 Main Street,
Chester on Collins Pine Lawn, at a 4500 ft. elevation. You’ll run on a
traffic-free course, as the race leaves pavement for dirt trails in
the first leg, allowing runners to enjoy pine tree forests, small foot
bridges, and the Feather River lined with willows. You can register
that morning beginning at 7am.
